Someone's coming? Oh, there're a bunch of bad guys trying to break in the town? Gosh, man, You need to prevent these kind of surprises! A proper guard post could do the work and make You feel safe even when You're out of town. And by the way, this build doesn't only add a functional value to Your community but it will also give the town a deeper medieval look. Sounds good to me at least :P
